Public Sector case studies

NHS NES – Supporting Professional Career Development in the NHS

The NES Nursing and Midwifery Career-long ePortfolio system allowed practitioners to record evidence of continuing professional development on an electronic platform however this system was not intuitive which meant that many health professionals did not use it and went back to paper-based re-validation.

Bridgeall was engaged by the Digital team at NHS Education for Scotland (NES Digital) to develop a new web application. Working closely with the NES product owners and UX team to refine user stories and develop appealing visual designs, the new system allowed users to generate evidence for re-validation in many formats, e.g. various forms, file uploads and professional details. The resulting application has been enhanced twice and is currently being used by 25,000 users.

Forest Research – A Modern Intranet Supporting Sustainable Forestry

Forest Research is the UK’s principal organisation for forestry and tree-related research, internationally renowned for the provision of evidence and scientific services in support of sustainable forestry. The organisation had an urgent requirement for a new Intranet to support its digital transformation journey.

Bridgeall successfully engaged with the internal Forest Research management team to deliver a Modern SharePoint Intranet including design, build, CMS, collaborative spaces, document management, governance, migration plan and post-launch support.

Bridgeall has subsequently provided governance and guidance around Office 365, Teams and SharePoint usage within the organisation.

Fair Start Scotland – Supporting Employment in Scotland

Fair Start Scotland (FSS) is Scotland’s employment support service providing assistance to those individuals ‘furthest from getting steady work’.

During the transition period from DWP, it became clear that a new Scottish IT system would be required to manage support and following a competitive tender, Bridgeall was appointed as the delivery partner for a new Scottish Employability Tracking Service (SETS).

Late delivery was not an option. The full project lifecycle – strategy, initiation, discovery, procurement, alpha, beta and transition to live service – had to be completed within 14 months; and at a fixed price. Working closely with FSS’s internal project team, and adopting an Agile approach, the Bridgeall software development team delivered on-time and under budget.

Cumbria County Council – SharePoint Document Management for the Public Sector

Cumbria County Council, headquartered in Carlisle, employs over 10,000 staff and delivers a range of strategic services to the people of the county.

The Council wished to take advantage of a move to new premises by digitising physical mail they received. By ascertaining which departments received the most mail, the metrics would enable the Council to help digitise public services, resulting in more efficient and cost effective range delivery.

Bridgeall utilised the Council’s existing on-premise SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Farm to deliver a digital delivery document management solution which combined out-of-the-box SharePoint components with custom development covering the more complex requirements.
